4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad - Good Buy, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CGX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
Bought this model at walmart for [...] as I had a gift card for there. Have used daily for about 6 weeks - usu. make about 8 cups. There have been no issues and the coffee tastes good for this economy model. Pause-n-serve works fine...can occasionly drip as all these models do when using that feature. Just keep a small napkin to wipe it off burner before setting carafe back on it. If you pull the carafe between "burps" (when the coffee actually drips through), you can virtually eliminate or minimze the drip. Easy to clean, the 2/hr shutoff works fine, and the timed brew feature works fine (as long as power doesn't go off over night). Overall it was a great buy in my opinion. The last Mr. Coffee I had (similiar unit) lasted 15 years...I can only hope this one lasts half that long. I even kept and use the same gold filter unit from the old one & it works fine on this model.

NOTE: Save the grounds and use on houseplants, in garden, and on small trees. Keeps insects away esp... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Had the potential to be a great coffeemaker, August 30, 2008

This review is from: Mr. Coffee CGX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I was very excited when I first bought this coffeemaker five weeks ago. It had everything I wanted in a coffeemaker. It was very stylish, convenient, easy to use, did not drip when pouring, was programmable, made a good cup of coffee, had cord storage, wasn't too large, had automatic shut-off after 2 hrs., etc. Too bad it stopped working after only 5 weeks of light use. I used it 3 to 4 times a week for one pot at a time. All of the sudden, the water wouldn't come through. I tried cleaning it as recommended, but to no avail. All it did was sputter and steam up my whole kitchen. Maybe I got a dud, but I returned it to Walmart and bought a different brand. Too bad, since I had such high hopes for this one.

So far this has been a wonderful product. We have had it about five weeks and use it five times a week. It is easy to use, makes great, hot coffee and looks good on the counter.

Our previous coffee maker was a Mr. Coffee which lasted about fifteen years. We looked at and researched many brands. For the price and given the service that we got from the previous Mr. coffee maker we went with this model.

The pot is easy to pour from with no drips. There are no grounds in the coffee. There is an occasional drip onto the hot plate when you remove the pot, but not every time. It is easy to fill with water and coffee. The brewing time for nine cups is about fourteen minutes. There is a gurgling sound toward the end of the brewing cycle but it is not loud. We are well pleased with our purchase.

    Amazon.com Review

Winter or summer, no Southerner will be found without a glass of iced tea in hand. With Bodum's Ceylon ice tea pitcher, brewing a superlative fresh version of this beverage is a breeze even for the Mason-Dixon-challenged among us. Simply place tea leaves in the brewing column, pour a few ounces of boiling water over them, fill the jug with cold water, and leave it in the fridge. The next morning, add lemon and sugar and start counting the hours until it's time to switch to juleps; you don't even have to remove the leaves in order to pour. Bodum's classic design makes this an attractive serving pitcher as well. --Mary Park

This review is from: Bodum Ceylon 51-Ounce Ice Tea Maker with Filter (Kitchen)
This pitcher does what it says, but after using it for a few months I have to wonder if this pitcher is special enough to warrant the price. The 'pull in-pull out' compartment that holds tea bags or lemons is nice. But the plastic is so thin after a few uses it starts to warp out of shape. If youre not supposed to pour hot water in the pitcher, what is the point of using it? I really like the slim-ness of the pitcher overall (fits in the fridge well), and I don't mind its small capacity, but its overall fragile build leaves me wishing the manufacturers would have just created something more sturdy. I'd say someone is better off just brewing tea in a regular tupperware pitcher for half the price.

i bought this teamaker because i interpreted the description to mean that it somehow brewed iced tea more easily than the usual boil-the-water-cool-it-off method. i found that the overnight in cold water method recommended makes really uninteresting tea. i started using the traditional boiling water method.

since i bought this two years ago, i have had none of the problems more recent users have mentioned. the plastic on my model seems quite sturdy, so i suspect even bodum has succumbed to cheap manufacturing in the interim.

as a convenient pitcher to cool and store iced tea in, its nice. and removing the tea leaves after brewing is simple with the insert--no need to juggle two containers and a seive. but it certainly isn't a clever, easier way to make iced tea.

I owned this for several years (many of which was spent in storage) until I gave this away to a friend. This is probably decent for a light tea drinker, but given the amount of tea I drink on a daily basis (8-10 cups per day), it just did not work for me. Also, the holes in the "so-called-strainer" are too big - I got a lot of sediment when I brewed loose leaf tea. I've since moved on to a stainless steel mesh strainer which produces much better results. In fact, what I've been using for years, I bought right here at Amazon. It's the "Bodum Teabowl". It's quite a bit more expensive (when I bought it 3 years ago it was $59.99 - now its $99.95) but I've used this thing every day since, and all it needs to stay looking new is a good cleaning from time to time. But, if you're a casual tea drinker that doesn't care about extra sediment in your tea, this is a decent low cost choice.

    4.0 out of 5 stars New Keurig B66 "Ultimate", March 14, 2009

This review is from: Keurig Platinum Gourmet Single Cup Coffee & Tea Brewing System 60 K-Cups & My K-Cup Reusable Filter
I have just purchased a Keurig Model B66 "Ultimate" and tried it out within the hour. My first opinions on this model are:

On a negative note... I found that the sound is noticeable when the unit is pumping the water into its heater. The individual K-Cup coffee containers while convenient, are costly per cup.

On the positive side... I drink black coffee and I feel that this unit does heat the water to a sufficient temperature and brews a drinkable cup of coffee very quickly. Another plus... Keurig also offers a solution for the "costly per cup servings" in that it sells a reusable coffee filter as an accessory. (This filter will permit you to use your own coffee which relates to a much lower cost per cup.)

My biggest regret about purchasing this particular model is that I didn't notice that the largest cup this unit brews is only ten (well 9.25) ounces... and not the twelve ounce mug size that I consider to be "my" standard size cup. In all... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Coffee System / Package Available, April 27, 2009
I recently asked for a cup of joe at a friend's house and they showed me their Keurig B60. They let me pick my own flavor and showed me how easy it was to make a cup of coffee with it. I was amazed at how fast this gourmet coffee was ready and how little there was to do for clean up. When I got home I researched it.

The only differences between the B60 and B66 is the color of the machine and quantity of sample K-Cups. The B60 is almost all black with a chrome handle while this B66 has a black body, silver top and chrome handle. The B60 gives you the standard 18 pack K-Cup sample, while the B66 gives you an additional 4 18-packs of samples AND a reusable "My K-Cup". The My K-Cup is a reusable filter you can put your own coffee in if you really want to (kind of defeats the purpose).

After using both the B60 and B66 I can tell you they both work EXACTLY the same. Any review you see for B60 has the same features, benefits, and shortfalls as the B66... Read more

    4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient / Good Coffee, February 20, 2009
I'd never heard of K-cups when I ran into the
Keurig B66 in Costco. At [...]with 90 K-cups,
I figured it was worth a try. As a bit of a coffee snob
(longtime "Peetnik" who finds Starbucks a little too weak)
    I'd avoided systems like
Senseo because I figured that they wouldn't brew
coffee as strong as I like it. And that WAS my experience
with the Keurig, too: The sample K-cups were okay,
but--unless brewed on the tiny 5.25 oz setting--
far too weak for my taste. Again, let me stress,
MY personal taste is for coffee stronger than probably
95% of Americans, so take that into account.

Cons: Even after trying the K-cups recommended by
others who say they prefer strong coffee
(Emeril's "Big Easy Bold," Coffee People's "Donut Shop Coffee,"
"Black Tiger" & "Wake Up", Timothy's "Midnight Magic"
& "Rainforest Espresso," and so on, I'm still having
trouble finding a stiff cup of Joe... Read more
